Two poems by E. Hoffecker

Fresh Pond

November ends
with warm gusts;
birdsong blown across
the pond.

Geese in calm clusters
cast dark shadows
across the gilded surface—
waters carefully protected
to satisfy the city's thirst.

Thistles and dried berries
rattle, brown leaves rustle and
brittle summer grasses rest
as we briskly bustle past,
in determined circles.

Forest music

Rain drops make
forest music
on my roof top.
Tall Doug Firs
and dripping ferns
in winter woods
beckon me to sleep.
